Net Metering System
This system allows the Conumer to install a solar energy system for the facility (either on rooftop or Parking) where it is directly connected to the national grid. It generates electrical power to feed the loads during the day, export the surplus power to national grid to use it in the night when solar system is OFF. The system size is designed based on annually average KWH consumption.
How the Net Metering System Works:
Photovoltaic panels convert sunlight into electrical current.
The inverter converts the current from the solar panels to match the current coming from the electricity company.
The generated electrical power from the inverter operates various electrical devices such as lighting, air conditioning, elevators, etc.
When the electrical output from the solar power system exceeds consumption, the surplus electricity is exported to the electric grid. When the solar energy production is less, the difference is compensated from the electric grid. This ensures that the consumer is always supplied with electrical power, both day and night.
The net metering meter calculates the surplus amount of electrical current generated from solar energy and returned to the electric grid during the day as an additional credit for the facility owner, And this surplus power the consumer use it in the night when system is OFF .
The "net metering" meter calculates the amount of generation exported to the grid during the day and Imported from it, then the electric bill is calculated based on the net between production and consumption.
Wheeling PV System
This system allows consumer who do not have enough space to install photovoltaic panels at their own facility to install a solar energy system at another location. This system is directly connected to the electrical grid, exporting generated energy directly to the national grid. This exported energy is measured by a generation meter installed at the connection point.Net billing for consumer from the wheeling renewable energy system is calculated through a monthly of energy exported from the system and the net of energy consumed at the facility.
How the Wheeling PV System Works:
Photovoltaic panels convert sunlight into electrical current.
The inverter converts the current produced by the solar panels to match the current coming from the power company.
The generated energy meter that installed in location of solar energy calculates the exported energy from solar system .
The power distribution company deducts 6% from the value of exported energy as Wheeling Losses .
Steps to Obtain Necessary Permits for Installing a Grid-Connected Solar Energy System
Project Design and Preparation of Technical and Financial Proposals
During this phase, the subscriber’s requirements are met through a deep understanding of the project. The activities of this phase include:
- Reviewing project documents.
- Gaining a deep understanding of the project by defining its scope.
- Preparing the technical proposal with project designs, providing calculations for the expected annual generation based on periodic measurements of solar radiation from accredited entities.
- Preparing the financial proposal.
Obtaining Permissions and Necessary Licenses :
During this phase, communication will be made with the relevant electricity distribution company, authorized by the subscriber, after obtaining the required documents for connection requests. This is to obtain the preliminary approval needed for the system capacity. The expected duration for obtaining approval from the relevant electricity distribution company is Thirty days for small systems and Ninty days for medium and large systems.
System Installation
After obtaining preliminary approval from the relevant electricity distribution company, the installation process will begin. The activities of this phase include:
- Installing mechanical works that include setting up the supporting structure for the cells and then installing the solar panels.
- Starting electrical works, connecting cables, installing isolation switches, and then installing breakers and inverters.
It is worth noting that the required duration for system installation is determined by the nature of the site and the size of the system to be installed.
System Operation and Obtaining Final Approvals from Relevant Authorities
- After completing the system installation, the Greater Amman Municipality is contacted to receive the system and issue a final approval for the system installation if the area falls under the Greater Amman Municipality.
- After obtaining approval from the Greater Amman Municipality, an application to operate the renewable energy system is submitted to the relevant distribution company, which will visit the site, receive the system, and ensure its compliance with the conditions of the renewable energy systems issued by the Energy and Mineral Regulatory Commission. The expected time for the relevant electricity distribution company to visit the site is three weeks from the date of receiving the request.
- After the system is received and approved by the electricity company, the request is transferred to the metering department to install a new net metering meter, and then the system is activated. The expected duration for installing the new meter after final receipt by the electricity company is two weeks.
